2. Prize in the competition for LMU Klinikum Grosshadern
The clinic complex at the Ludwig-Maximilians University (LMU) in Munich-Grosshadern is to be replaced completely over the course of the next 25 years and is to remain operational throughout this work. The main building is scheduled for demolition within the next ten years.
The interdisciplinary implementation competition has attracted a great deal of praise from the Free State of Bavaria for its wealth of town planning concepts, and the aim is to build six new clinic centres on a site measuring about 70,000 m². In this competition, the primary feature is the first building section of this billion euro project.
It was just about two years ago that OBERMEYER was admitted through a competitive procedure to this two-stage implementation competition with its primary focus on defining the overall concept. The planning team succeeded in working their way into the last eight from an original field of 18 selected applicants. Now the aim was to go into greater depth and fine detail, developing a set of building planning services that included the draft technical concept.
On 12 February 2021, the final outcome was announced: The jury awarded prizes to three winning entries. The work of the OBERMEYER team of planners and architects was awarded the second prize. The first prize went to the consortium HENN | C.F. Møller, while the third prize was awarded to Ludes Architekten-Ingenieure GmbH. Now, before the planning order is finally awarded, the Bavarian Council of Ministers will be examining the winning draft designs. The Staatliches Bauamt [state building authorities] Munich 2 will conduct the contractual negotiations.
