Altenberg: A venue for elite sports
This venue is located in Altenberg, in Saxony. The town is known as a Mecca for winter sports: The bob-sleigh and skeleton bob world championships took place here between 17 February and 1 March 2020, .
As part of the first construction phase for this elite sports centre, a new three-part gym facility has been built. In the context of a tendering procedure for professional services, OBERMEYER was awarded the role of General Planning for this elite sports centre. Construction work started in 2017. As well as training and administration rooms, a combined shooting and running building and a two-part push-off straight for bob-sleigh, skeleton bob and luges are being built.
The building structure and its geographical location were a challenge, primarily due to the 115 metre length of the two-storey section of this building, with an underground access to the training centre in which the two push-off straights are located, each with gradients of up to 25.5%. Flexible rails are provided in the bob-sleigh area. For luge/skeleton, the plan is to install suitable flooring which would also present more stringent requirements in terms of the smoothness of the concrete surface.
The buildings surrounding this construction site make this a very confined location. As a result of this, its immission protection system is required to comply with strict specifications.
