Digital ‘foundation’ for Gasteig renovation
After its complete refurbishment, the Gasteig is to become the most modern cultural centre in Europe. This five-part complex of buildings, located on the Isar, was built starting in 1978 and it opened its doors to the public in 1984/85. It comprises a total surface area of roughly 80,000 m². The intention is to commence work, conversions and technical expansions to the floor area towards the end of 2021.
From an early stage, OBERMEYER was entrusted with the planning and coordination of all preliminary measures: All the following measures are based on a digital baseline model of the entire building complex produced on behalf of Gasteig Munich GmbH that includes all elements relevant to the planning of the supporting structure. This model was based on current digital drawings and on the existing drawings which date from the Seventies.
The aim of all of these preliminary measures was to obtain insights and assessments of the condition of the building structure and its technical equipment. For this, extensive baseline investigations were conducted.
Building on this, the Munich-based architecture company Architekturbüro Henn GmbH, which won this particular architecture competition back in 2019, is now implementing the following plans for the ‘Neuer Gasteig’ which, in architectural terms, will showcase open-ness and transparency as the ‘pulsating cultural heart of Munich’. Recently, this work was recognised with the title of ‘BIM Champion 2021’ at the 18th buildingSMART User Day.
