General renovation of the Winnweiler outdoor pool
Since the operational safety of the bath was no longer guaranteed, a general refurbishment had become unavoidable. This included a completely barrier-free design and energy optimization. The entire technology was largely renewed. But the character of the overall facility and thus the charm of the 1960s architecture was to be preserved.
Three new buildings
With the entrance building, the supervisory building and the storage building three new buildings characterize the facility. Leaving the entrance building, the pool landscape consisting of a multi-purpose pool, a non-swimmer's pool and a toddler's pool, opens up. Between the pools is a sunbathing deck, which is enclosed by a supervision and storage building. The architectural services were provided by Molter Linnemann from Kaiserslautern.
Diving tower and large water slide
The attractions of the pool are a large water slide and a diving tower. The badly damaged and corroded diving tower was to be retained as a historical element because of its significant 1960s architecture. Now, thanks to the renovation measures, its stability can be maintained for a long period. To make the stay more attractive, a new 60m long large water slide was installed west of the non-swimmer pool as well as massage jets.
Stainless steel lining of the swimming pools
The swimmer and non-swimmer pools were completely lined with stainless steel sheets. This is a sustainable solution for the long-term renovation of the pools.
Optimal circulation and mixing of the pools is established by a new vertical inflow system via floor channels and new stainless steel drainage channels. The stainless-steel lining has a long service life and can be recycled at any time.
Technology: Building concept and pool water technology
To order to minimize line lengths and thus energy losses in the pressure lines, the central location of the pool water treatment system between the swimmer and non-swimmer pools was retained. Due to the poor structural condition of the existing technical building, it was replaced by a new one.
For construction reasons, the ceiling height is 1.5 m above the water level of the swimmer's pool. To make the ceiling usable, a sun deck was built on top of it. At the southern edge of the building, a supervisory tower with various functional rooms was erected on the ceiling. This gives the pool attendants a complete overview on all pools.
Each of the three pools has its own water circuit with a surge tank. The disinfection of the bathing water is carried out by a full-vacuum chlorine gas system. A process control system provides the operating data on the control cabinet of the bath water technology and on further computers of the plant.
Heating concept, circulation and attraction pumps
The heating of the clean water to the pools is primarily done by a 500 m² solar absorber system on the roof of the entrance building. If required, heat is supplied via heat exchangers, which are primarily fed from a stratified storage tank. The stratified storage tank is heated by the waste heat from a CHP unit and additionally by a boiler. Roll-up covers for the pools ensure that heat losses outside opening hours are minimized.
The circulation pumps as well as the pumps of the attractions run on energy-efficient permanent magnet synchronous motors. Their output is regulated depending on the current load of the raw water.
