Technical Details

The project involves the construction of the infrastructure and railway superstructure (slab track and ballast track) of the railway line of normal gauge at 3 sections in Northern and Southern Greece.

Section 1: “Tithorea–Lianokladi–Domokos”, double high-speed railway line of  approx. 120 km in length with a speed of 160-200km/h including 6 railway stations, 2 twin tunnels (Kallidromos tunnel about 9 km long and Othrys tunnel about 7 km long) and several bridges (i.e. railway bridge No. 16 with a length of 657m). The construction of this section reduced the travel time on the Athens–Thessaloniki railway line.

Section 2: “Kiato – Patra”, double high-speed railway line of approx. 100 km in length with a speed of 160-200km/h including 10 railway stations and 7 tunnels and several bridges. The construction of this section connects Peloponnese with the Athens’ modern railway network.

Section 3: “Alexandroupoli harbor railway connection”. The section concerns the execution of the necessary works for the construction of the railway superstructure of the Container Terminal line and its connection with the existing network of railway lines of the Alexandroupolis Railway Station. It includes superstructure works (ballasted track and embedded track in the port area) and other works for the restoration of the surrounding area.

Services Provided

The contract covers the unification of individual designs, superstructure design (slab track and ballast) of railway line and the corresponding tender documents, health and safety studies, study for railway safety specifications and principles’ implementation and unification and integration of individual tender documents.
