Planned and designed by Obermeyer, the Qingdao Sino-German Ecopark (Qingdao International Economic Cooperation Zone) , is located in Qingdao Huangdao District, near the coast of Jiaozhou Bay. It is the first ecological cooperation demonstration project between China and Germany and a milestone achievement in that category. As one of Qingdao's key functional zones, the Sino-German Ecopark plays an important role as the gateway and platform for opening up and cooperation with the outside world in Qingdao.

Waterfront urban development with apartment blocks, office buildings, trees, and a lake reflection

In July 2010, the construction of the Sino-German Ecopark was officially signed under the witness of the Prime Ministers of both China and Germany, and the foundation stone was laid in December 2011 and the construction started in July 2013, with an area of about 11.6 square kilometres. The Sino-German Ecopark leads the development of eco-construction with high standard requirements and is benchmarked against the United Nations' 2030 development goals, and its first ecological indicator 2030 system for functional zones has passed the expert review.

Qingdao Sino-German Ecopark actively introduces German DGNB system, passive house standard and other relevant green building standards to stick on the theme of Ecological development, and it promotes the construction of passive ultra-low-energy green buildings on a large scale in the park. It implements 100% green construction and 100% green buildings in the Ecopark, and the C2 cluster has been certified by the German green building assessment system DGNB with a Sustainable Building Gold Award.

As the only award-winning park in China, Sino-German Ecopark has been awarded the "Sustainable Cities and Habitat Award" by the United Nations, and has won more than 10 national accolades for comprehensive standardisation, low carbon cities, green manufacturing, smart cities and intelligent manufacturing.

The C2 Cluster of the Sino-German Eco-Park is now almost fully completed, including a passive house community, a football base, a medical centre, a nursing home, a mixed-use residential, commercial and office site, spacious open and green spaces, and the German Centre, the largest DGNB Platinum-certified multi-purpose building complex in Asia.
