The activities of Obermeyer in China have started as early as 1980s, when project involvements enabled Obermeyer to come to China as one of the first German companies. Since then our mission has never changed. Providing innovation and high quality in all engineering areas is an ongoing effort that requires not only technical knowledge but also methods and an understanding of the local needs for implementation.
From Germany to China
Obermeyer Group is one of the largest and oldest independent engineering consulting firms in Germany. Founded in Munich in 1958 by the renowned German civil engineer Dr. Leonhard Obermeyer, the company now employs over 1,400 people worldwide. With more than three decades of deep engagement in the Chinese market, Obermeyer China provides comprehensive services for engineering construction and urban planning projects—ranging from preliminary consulting, planning and design, and transportation engineering to project management—leveraging interdisciplinary collaboration among its professional teams and globally leading technical support.

1958
Company is founded
Civil engineer Leonhard Obermeyer founds the Obermeyer engineering consultancy in Krailling near Munich, Germany
1966
Flagship renovation project
Renovation of the Stachus buildings in Munich, Germany. Obermeyer is responsible for engineering and construction management. The project was completed in 1971
1967
Our first computer
Use of our first computer. Foundation of new subsidiaries in West Germany.
1980
First international project
Obermeyer expands abroad and opens first subsidiaries in Turkey, Saudi Arabia and the People’s Republic of China.
1990
German Railways Project
Obermeyer is the general planner for a major German re-unification project connecting Ebensfeld (West Germany) and Erfurt (East Germany), by a high-speed railway line. The project was completed in 2017.
1995
New International Offices
The company is concentrating on expansion abroad, new subsidiaries are opened in Russia/CIS, the United Arab Emirates, South-Eastern Europe and North Africa.
1997
First China Office
First competitions for Shenyang Airport Terminal and Shenzhen Futian CBD are won. Obermeyer paved the way for continuous success in China.
2004
First Maglev
Shanghai Maglev opens with Obermeyer expertise.
2005
Obermeyer China Established
Obermeyer opens permanent branch company in China. The number of employees quickly grows to more than 80 professionals.
2009
First Major Projects Realized
The Hangzhou Qianjiang New Town and Guangzhou Zhujiang New Town projects planned and designed by Obermeyer have been completed and opened to the public.
2014
Rejuvenating China
In less than 10 years, Obermeyer has designed major projects in most great cities of modern China, contributing to the country’s rise and success.
2024
Environment-friendly Mission
Designed by Obermeyer, The Yangtze River Estuary Chinese Sturgeon Nature Reserve successfully produced its first batch of artificially bred Chinese sturgeon in 2024.
