In 2017, Würth, the world market leader in the development, manufacture and sale of assembly and fastening materials, had launched a realization competition for an innovation center at its headquarters in Künzelsau. OBERMEYER won this competition. The planning contract followed.

The building project with an investment volume of approx. 75 million euros provides state-of-the-art laboratories, workspaces and workshops on an area of around 15,500 square meters.

The new building, which has a polygonal and expressive form, is divided into a three, in parts four-story main building and a two-story annex, which is connected to the main building via a glass passageway. The buildings are in dialogue with each other. In its design, the annex picks up on the form and material language of the main building. The design is based on the principle of spatial folding of the required functions.

The individual functional areas are arranged triangularly around a common inner courtyard. This foyer, covered by a triangular steel and glass roof construction, is the central access element to the public and non-public areas.

The overall planning contract included all service phases from the basic evaluation to construction supervision and site management. In addition, the project included consulting services for fire protection and building physics.
