G8 secondary school in Maxdorf
Project duration from 2009 to 2016
Client
Rhineland Palatinate region
Location
Maxdorf, DE
The planning task was to extend and renovate the existing secondary school to create an all-day G8 grammar school.
For this, the existing collection of buildings, comprising sections A and C, is to be extended by two new buildings arranged parallel to the school road in a curved arrangement. The urban planning concept for this was to create a new district interconnected by footpaths and with a central square.
The existing building C will be extended by a concertina-style new-build to the West. New internal courtyards and retreat areas for the school community will be created. Section B of this new structure will house the general classrooms. Different age groups will be assigned to different storeys, with spacious central leisure areas with views to the internal courtyard.
The refectory is being planned with seating for 900 as a standalone building on School Road, also serving as a multi-functional area with a stage for school events.
The design concept for this project was based on baseline analyses and concept variants each with its own economic viability calculation and optimised on the basis of life cycle costs.
As the planner in chief, OBERMEYER planned the entire building in three sections, employing the BIM method for the disciplines of architecture, interior design, technical building equipment and outdoor areas.
