The S1 outer ring express road is the gap closure in the freeway and express road ring around Vienna. The centerpiece of this gap closure is the Lobau Tunnel with a length of approx. 8.3 km, 5,980 m of which is in shield construction. The Lobau Tunnel consists of two parallel tunnel tubes, each with a tunnel diameter of 15 m, underneath the Danube and the Donau-Auen National Park. The two tunnel tubes are connected by a total of 28 cross passages, which are constructed in the shotcrete method under the protection of an all-round freezing system.
Completion is scheduled for 2026.
OBERMEYER was commissioned as a member of a joint venture with the work phases submission planning, tender design, invitation to tender and detailed design.
